Our Philosophy: The Brush and The Knife

In Japan, the path of the brush (Shodo) and the path of the culinary arts (Washoku) are both journeys of mindfulness, precision, and respect for materials. At Shodo Spice, we unite these two disciplines. We believe that the focus required to create a perfect character is the same focus needed to slice fish for the finest sushi. Our experiences are designed not just to teach you recipes, but to immerse you in a state of creative flow, connecting you to the heart of Japanese culture.

Our Master Instructor

Kaito Sato (Sato-sensei)

Master Instructor & Founder

With over 20 years of experience as a Washoku chef in Ginza and a recognized 5th-dan master in Shodo calligraphy, Sato-sensei founded Shodo Spice to share his passion for the two arts that have defined his life. He believes that cooking is a form of moving meditation, a discipline where mindfulness transforms simple ingredients into extraordinary experiences. His teaching style is patient, encouraging, and deeply rooted in the philosophy that true artistry comes from the heart as much as the hand.

"Each dish is a poem, each ingredient a character. We are not just filling stomachs; we are creating a moment of beauty."
